MegaFon-International was established in February 2008 as a subsidiary of MegaFon for development of projects outside of the Russian Federation. In April 2008, a representative office of CJSC "MegaFon-International" was opened in Tehran. The representative office operated through October 2008. It was closed as MegaFon-International refused to participate in tender for license for provision of mobile communication services in Iran. In November 2008, a representative office of CJSC "MegaFon-International" was registered in Ashkhabad for preparation to participation in tender for license for provision of GSM mobile communication services in Turkmenia.
